The Capella Coat is an adventurous beginner pattern designed for woven & quilted fabrics. The design is a nod to your favorite bomber jacket but with a quilted twist. It features a boxy shape, elasticated back hem, an optional hood, a drawstring, biasbound seams, and a reversible design. Use pre-quilted fabric for a quick finish, or follow the included step-by-step guide to quilt your own fabric for a truly custom result.

Techniques include continuous bias binding, bias-bound seams, quilting, patch pockets, buttons, and buttonholes. Whether you sew this up with or without the hood, quilt your own fabric or use prequilted fabric, Capella is meant to be a fun project with step-by-step instructions guiding you through your next favorite jacket.

  • This pattern requires between 2 - 3 yds/meters of pre-quilted woven fabric depending on the size and view you choose. Optionally you can quilt your own fabric! There are full instructions for that as well
  • 0.5 - 1 yds/mts of contrast fabric for the bias binding is needed
  • Capella is designed for light-to-medium weight pre-quilted fabrics with a structured yet comfortable feel. Look for weights around 200–300gsm (approximately 6–9oz). This range provides warmth and shape without excessive bulk.
  • Suitable options include: pre-quilted cottons or cotton blends, pre-quilted nylon or polyester outerwear fabrics, or quilted double-cloth fabrics

This pattern is so thorough and thoughtful. It's very easy to follow and I love all the unique details of the coat compared to most quilted coats.!

REBECCA

Very nice jacket where you can still make a lot of creative choices yourself.

LAURA

The Madswick patterns are always very thoughtfully drafted and the instructions well laid out. What drew me to this pattern was the hood option and the slightly sporty silhouette achieved by the elasticated back band--it's a nice addition to the quilt coat pattern world <3
