Ideal fabrics:
- pre-quilted cotton
- lightweight cotton and cotton batting

Also works well with:
- light to mid-weight quilted fabrics (approximately 200-300gsm / 6-9oz) including:
— pre-quilted nylon
— pre-quilted polyester outerwear fabrics
— self-quilted woven fabrics in linen or cotton

Tips:
- Pre-quilted fabric is the quickest option and ideal for first-time makers.
- If quilting your own fabric, lighter outer fabrics are easier to manage and create less bulk.
- Choose a contrasting bias binding to highlight the reversible construction.
- Avoid heavily padded quilted fabrics, which can make bias binding and seams difficult to sew.
- You will need 0.5 - 1 yds/mts of contrast fabric for the bias binding.

Required sewing level:
- Confident Beginner. New sewists will learn new techniques.

Skills you will learn from the instruction booklet/video tutorial:
- continuous bias binding
- sewing bias-bound seams
- quilting fabric (optional)
- sewing patch pockets
- sewing buttonholes
- attaching buttons
- inserting elastic
- constructing a reversible garment

Tools you will need:
- sewing machine
- iron
- measuring tape
*Note: additional required notions can be found above.

Fit notes:
- Choose your size based on your bust measurement (see our “Measurements” chart above).
- Designed with a relaxed, boxy fit that layers comfortably over everyday clothing.
- The elasticated back hem creates shape while maintaining ease of movement.
- Choose between the hooded or collarless version to suit your style.

This pattern is so thorough and thoughtful. It's very easy to follow and I love all the unique details of the coat compared to most quilted coats.!

REBECCA

Very nice jacket where you can still make a lot of creative choices yourself.

LAURA

The Madswick patterns are always very thoughtfully drafted and the instructions well laid out. What drew me to this pattern was the hood option and the slightly sporty silhouette achieved by the elasticated back band--it's a nice addition to the quilt coat pattern world <3
